(Birth Years 2000 & later)

There are no tryouts for this age group. Email Pat at p.nehls@mchsi.com if you are interested in your daughter playing on an 8U team in Spring 2009. Once the number of players and parents willing to coach is determined, a team (or teams) will be formed in April. Most of the players who play on these 8U teams also play in Waukee's recreational softball program, as the tournaments are after the recreational season ends.

Within the limits of a volunteer organization, WAC Softball strives to make the tryout process as impartial as possible. Girls will be placed on teams according to skills demonstrated not only at the tryouts, but also prior ASA play, as well as their commitment to a competitive softball experience.

Inclement Weather

In case of inclement weather, tryouts will be the following Saturday, October 11th.

Residency

To be eligible to participate on one of the ASA teams you must reside within; or attend a school within; the Waukee School District.

Tryout Attendance

Players must pre-register to attend the tryouts, and pay the $20 tryout fee with their signed registration form. This fee will help offset the expense of holding these comprehensive tryouts.

Attendance is required at tryouts to be placed on a team. Pitchers & Catchers need to attend both the regular tryout and the Pitcher & Catcher tryout. Illness, injury or extraordinary personal circumstances may cause players to request an exemption from tryouts. Requests must be made prior to the start of tryouts unless an illness or injury occurs during tryouts. The WAC Softball Board will decide the appropriate course of action in each case.

Tryout Process

To be fair to all the girls trying out, parents are not allowed to stay and watch or participate in tryouts. Only participants, tryout evaluators and those individuals assigned to help will be allowed near the softball fields during tryouts. All others are encouraged to drop off their player or remain in the parking lot until tryouts are completed.

Please wear appropriate softball clothing and gear. All players must provide their own glove, bat, helmet (faceguards are required) and water bottle. If you are a catcher and have your own equipment, please bring it with you. Otherwise, the WAC will have catcher's gear available during tryouts.

All players need to check-in prior to the start of try-outs, so please show up 20 minutes early to avoid delays and to warm up.

Tryouts will consist of hitting, fielding, throwing and running drills.

Pitching & Catching Tryouts will be held separately from the other tryouts, in addition to the regular tryouts. Pitchers will have time to warm up prior to evaluation, and parents may catch for their daughters for warm ups.

The tryouts will be the same format as last year, with outside evaluators brought in. We plan for players to be notified within the week after tryouts as to team placement.

Message for Parents

Thank you for your interest in the Warrior Athletic Club (WAC) ASA Softball program. Before deciding to participate, we want to make you aware of some of the rules and guidelines we have in place to ensure a rewarding and successful experience for players, parents and coaches.

Rules:

*All teams will have a limited roster of 10-12 players. Since we are limiting our rosters, you need to make the commitment for your player to be at practices and every tournament.

*Once the teams are formed, a $50 WAC Fee will be collected to secure a player's spot on their team. The WAC Fee is used for ASA Player/Coach/Team Insurance, Team Equipment, WAC Field Maintenance, and other items outlined here: www.waukeesoftball.com/wacmembership.htm

*Other expenses include the player uniform, tournament fees and travel expenses if your team chooses to travel to a tournament out of the Des Moines area. We will be replacing the uniforms for the 2009 Tournament Season. Teams often collect a deposit up front from the parents so they can send in tournament registrations early to avoid being turned away from a tournament that has filled. This deposit usually varies between $100 and $200 per player, depending on the age level and the number of tournaments the team plans to play in. You can see how many tournaments each team played last year on our 2008 team pages here: http://www.waukeesoftball.com/wacrosters2008.htm

Some of these expenses can be offset if your team chooses to obtain sponsors and/or do fundraisers.

Parent/Guardian Guidelines:

*Playing on a WAC ASA team is a commitment. It can be a rewarding and challenging experience, as players are exposed to a more competitive level of play. There is NO GUARANTEED PLAYING TIME FOR ANY GIRLS ON THE TOURNAMENT TEAMS. All decisions in this regard will be at the sole discretion of the coach. We ask parents to be supportive of coaches' decisions.

*Please remember that you have a choice as to whether you will expose your child to this competitive level of play. Not all children are ready for this level of commitment.

*Making a WAC ASA team one year has no bearing on future year selections. Children at these ages develop rapidly and at different stages.

*Please explain these rules and guidelines to your child before you decide to have your child participate.

*Each player's family will be required to commit to at least 4 hours at the Warrior Annual Classic Fastpitch tournament to be held in Waukee. Last year's tournament was held May 17-19, 2008. The dates for 2009 have not been set yet.

*The tournament season begins in April and can end as late as mid-July. Each team will play in several tournaments, with some of them being out of town. Many tournaments start on Friday evening, continue on Saturday, and finals are usually on Sunday. You can see how many tournaments each team played last year on our 2008 team pages here: http://www.waukeesoftball.com/wacrosters2008.htm
